Gefitinib is used for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer that has spread to other parts of the body in patients with certain types of tumors. It is a class of medications called kinase inhibitors. It works by impeding the action of a naturally occurring substance which is needed to accelerate growth of cancer cells.

Gefitinib may cause side effects. Common side effects include dry skin, itching, rash, acne, mouth sores, and weakness.
